Today’s Topic: Should I Trim or Cut My Natural Hair?

If the goal is to retain length, then keep the scissors to a minimum. “Trim my ends” does not mean take 6 inches off my hair! Before anyone is set free with a pair of scissors, or a razor; there needs to be a clear understanding of exactly how much hair will be cut.

Your idea of a trim and the person holding the shears idea of trim could be two different things! Clarity is key. There should be a conversation about any kind of cutting of any kind before the shears cut one strand. Once the hair is on the floor it’s too late. To be clear, a TRIM IS 1 inch or less, a hair CUT is 1.5 inches or more in stylist lingo. A pro-tip when it gets difficult to detangle is a great indicator that a TRIM may be in order. A hair cut changes the style and shape of hair. Conversation and consultation are vital.
